SUMMARY:The Poppy Project Pop-Up Living Garden at Galleria Fort Lauderdale
DESCRIPTION:Galleria Fort Lauderdale presents The Poppy Project Pop-Up Living Garden in support of Henderson Behavioral Health (HBH) in collaboration with the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee. This public art initiative is designed to honor veterans while raising awareness and funds for critical mental health services. Shoppers can take colorful photos and selfies to share online and connect with and donate to HBH’s virtual Legacy Wall which encourages friends and families to honor loved ones who have served or are currently serving our country. The cherished photo opportunity with the larger-than-life artistic poppy flowers will run through November 10 at Galleria Fort Lauderdale (2414 East Sunrise Blvd.). \nDesigned by South Florida based Ingham Landscaping and presented by Galleria Fort Lauderdale\, the two-month living garden will be a colorful and lively setting featuring the five-and 6-foot striking handcrafted fiberglass poppy flowers which are a remembrance of those who protect and serve our country. The inside mall garden will include a variety of tropical ornamental plants and shrubs that will complement the artistic poppy works of art. \n Adding to the installation\, will be “Soldier Stories\,” an exclusive exhibition by award-winning artist Marilyn Johansen honoring veterans and the military. Visitors will also be encouraged to select free postcards and add a personal message to current servicemen and women. This special moment is arranged by the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee. Special retail offers will coincide with this community project. \nInspired by the poppy’s historical significance as a symbol of sacrifice\, rooted in the World War I poem “In Flanders Fields\,” and later adopted as a national emblem of remembrance\, HBH’s The Poppy Project brings this tradition to life in a local and meaningful way. \nThe effort is sponsored by key community partners and supporters including The Leo Goodwin Foundation\, Arlene Pecora\, the Henderson Behavioral Health Board of Directors\, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL)\, USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee\, Community Foundation of Broward\, Disabled American Veterans-Gold Coast Chapter 133\, Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale and Galleria Fort Lauderdale. \nTo learn more\, call (954) 564-1015 or visit www.galleriamall-fl.com.

SUMMARY:An Exploration of Color
DESCRIPTION:Since childhood\, Sarah Rocca has been captivated by the power of imagery\, the ability to freeze time and preserve memories through the art of painting with light. Her vivid imagination\, once confined to the colorful worlds she envisioned as a child\, found its voice through digital tools. This fusion of creativity and technology allowed Rocca to bring her unique perspective to life and share it with a broader audience. \nRocca’s use of color serves not only as a visual element but as a narrative device. Through her deliberate color choices\, she conveys mood\, emotion and unspoken subtext\, inviting viewers to engage with each piece on a personal level. An Exploration of Color is a visual memoir\, a journey through Rocca’s experiences of love\, divorce\, depression and joy. Each image encourages the viewer to reflect on how color influences their emotions and to interpret the story it tells through their own lens. \nClick here to learn more of the artist – Sarah Rocca.

SUMMARY:Island City Stage presents Who Killed Joan Crawford? by Michael Leeds
DESCRIPTION:The award-winning Island City Stage launches its 15th anniversary season in outrageous celebratory style! Get set for a raucous ride paying homage to everyone’s favorite drama queen\, Joan Crawford\, in the theater company’s revival of the hit world premiere of Michael Leeds’ Who Killed Joan Crawford? The show runs October 1 – 25 with tickets on sale now. \nOn a dark\, stormy night in 1993\, five men arrive at a cabin for a soap star’s surprise birthday party. As they wait for the star\, the five “Joans” begin drinking and dishing. As a director\, aside from his Broadway credits\, Leeds directed and choreographed the production of Hello Muddah\, Hello Faddah – The Songs of Allan Sherman for which he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Best Director/Best Choreographer. Other Off Broadway credits include Showing Off\, the York Theatre’s revivals of 70\, Girls\, 70 and Lerner & Lane’s Carmelina which he adapted with the original book writer Joe Stein. His production of the European premiere of Arthur Miller’s Playing For Time won the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival First Award. He also directed and choreographed A Little Night Music for the Houston Grand Opera and Marc Blitzstein’s Regina for Florida Grand Opera.

SUMMARY:Royal Dames of Cancer Research to Kick Off 2026 Tiara Ball Season With ‘Dancing Queens’ Fall Luncheon & Fashion Show on Oct. 1
DESCRIPTION:Royal Dames of Cancer Research\, Inc. will launch its 2026 Tiara Ball season with the annual Royal Dames of Cancer Research Fall Luncheon & Fashion Show on Thursday\, Oct. 1\, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lauderdale Yacht Club in Fort Lauderdale. \nThe Fall Luncheon will kick off the organization’s “Dancing Queens”-themed Tiara Ball season\, which will culminate with the 56th Annual Tiara Ball on Nov. 14 at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa. The Tiara Ball\, chaired by Bonnie Mitten\, is Royal Dames’ primary annual fundraiser in support of its mission to fund cancer research. \nThe luncheon and fashion show will celebrate fashion\, friendship and philanthropy while supporting the Royal Dames’ mission of funding cancer research. Professional models will take to the runway for a true fashion show experience\, showcasing high-end couture and elegant fashions from renowned luxury designers\, presented by The Colonnade Outlets. \n“The Fall Luncheon is a wonderful opportunity to bring our community together as we begin another Tiara Ball season and continue the important work at the heart of the Royal Dames\,” said Sophia Mylona\, president of Royal Dames of Cancer Research. \nGuests will also have opportunities to support the mission through raffles and live and silent auctions featuring an array of experiences and packages. Highlights include a three-hour private yacht cruise for up to 10 guests aboard My Amore 59\, complete with champagne\, fine wine and gourmet hors d’oeuvres\, as well as a full event-planning package for up to 50 guests in South Florida\, including event design\, budget planning\, vendor coordination\, floor plan design\, itinerary creation and day-of-event management\, and more. \nRoyal Dames of Cancer Research traces its history to Dr. Joel Warren’s request for $250\,000 to support cancer research. Warren approached Fort Lauderdale resident Theresa Castro\, who was inspired to create an organization dedicated to funding cancer research. One hundred of Castro’s friends each pledged $2\,500\, leading to the creation of Royal Dames of Cancer Research\, Inc. in 1969. Since its founding\, Royal Dames has contributed more than $7.68 million in support of cancer research at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). The organization continues to support cancer research in pursuit of a cure. \nThe Royal Dames of Cancer Research Fall Luncheon & Fashion Show will take place Thursday\, Oct. 1\, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lauderdale Yacht Club\, 1725 SE 12th St.\, Fort Lauderdale\, FL 33316. \nTickets\, tables and sponsorship opportunities are available at rdfall26.givesmart.com.
