American Heritage Schools is pleased to once again welcome internationally-acclaimed mathematics professor, coach, and entrepreneur Dr. Po-Shen Loh to its Broward campus on Saturday, December 17, in conjunction with the 2022 American Heritage Math Invitational for Middle Schools.

During the invitational at American Heritage Schools, the top-ranked school in the nation in mathematics, middle school mathletes from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties will compete in two 60-minute tests consisting of material from pre-algebra through geometry, followed by a meet-and-greet with Dr. Loh. Dr. Loh will also host a guest lecture that is open to parents and students throughout the South Florida community.

“It is such a great opportunity for students to hear Dr. Loh speak,” says Dr. Radleigh Santos, American Heritage Schools Competitive Mathematics Head Coach and MIT Graduate. “He is one of the preeminent mathematics coaches and communicators in the world, and it is an honor to host him at our competition.”

Graduating top in his class at California Institute of Technology, Dr. Loh earned his doctorate in mathematics from Princeton University. He has been a math professor at Carnegie Mellon University since 2010. As an academic, he has earned distinctions ranging from an International Mathematical Olympiad silver medal to the United States Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. As an educator, Dr. Loh was the coach of Carnegie Mellon University’s math team when it achieved its first-ever No. 1 rank among all North American universities and the coach of the USA Math Olympiad team when it achieved its first-ever back-to-back No. 1-rank victories in 2015 and 2016, and then again in 2018 and 2019.

He uses math to devise new solutions to real-world problems and has appeared in national and international newspapers for several discoveries. Dr. Loh runs a program that guides high school math stars to develop extraordinary communication and performance skills while teaching middle and elementary schoolers how to invent their own ways to think about math. He is both a social entrepreneur and a YouTuber with over 17 million views.

“In his speeches, Professor Po-Shen Loh provides an invaluable look into how math can be used to create and implement world-changing ideas,” said Jesse Brodtman, a high school junior at American Heritage Schools. ‘It was at his speech at the American Heritage Palm Beach FAMAT Invitational where I learned about his program for high-schoolers: LIVE. Through my participation in this program, I have been taught to think in new ways, learned to better express my ideas, met an amazing community, and spread my love for mathematics; all while having the time of my life.”

With exceptional representation at the 2022 Mu Alpha Theta National Math Competition, the prestigious American Heritage Schools’ Broward campus is ranked as the No. 1 private school math team in the Nation and the Palm Beach campus as the No. 2 private school math team for the 12thconsecutive year. American Heritage Schools is an independent, non-sectarian, co-educational, college preparatory school in South Florida serving grades Pre-K3 to 12.
Each year, American Heritage Schools offers a limited number of 50% and 100% 4-year tuition scholarships to rising 9th grade students. In addition to performing well on the scholarship exam, qualified candidates are at the top of their class, taking high school classes while in junior high, passionate about their extra-curricular activities, leaders in and out of the classroom, and model citizens in middle school.
