SUMMARY:3rd Annual Just a Few Friends Festival
DESCRIPTION:This September\, Key West will be hosting the 3rd annual Just a Few Friends festival (Sept. 3-7\, 2026)\, which has really evolved into something bigger than a typical tribute event. The festival has become this fascinating gathering of Parrothead culture\, longtime Buffett fans and people who still feel deeply connected to the lifestyle and community he created. One of the more interesting parts this year is the “Ultimate Friend Badge\,” which attendees wear throughout the weekend and collect stickers on at different events around the island (i.e. a Private Distillery Tour with Paul Menta will allow badge holders to go behind the scenes at the award-winning Key West First Legal Rum Distillery with owner\, founder\, and chef Paul Menta). It’s turned into this organic symbol of connection/community among festivalgoers. The weekend also includes a Second Line Memorial Parade through Key West and performances from Mac McAnally\, Will Kimbrough\, Howard Livingston and more.

DESCRIPTION:DeGraaf’s studio practice is deeply informed by the Gestalt principles of perception\, particularly the relationship between figure and ground. Rather than presenting a stable or singular image\, his compositions invite viewers to move between what is seen immediately and what slowly emerges through closer observation. Figures and forms are first constructed through recognizable visual structures\, then gradually deconstructed through overlapping shapes\, interruptions\, and spatial ambiguity. This push and pull across the picture plane challenges the eye to continuously reorganize the image\, creating moments where foreground and background compete\, merge\, or dissolve into one another. In doing so\, the work mirrors the way perception itself functions – constantly searching for meaning\, connection\, and wholeness within fragmented experiences.

DESCRIPTION:DeGraaf’s studio practice is deeply informed by the Gestalt principles of perception\, particularly the relationship between figure and ground. Rather than presenting a stable or singular image\, his compositions invite viewers to move between what is seen immediately and what slowly emerges through closer observation. Figures and forms are first constructed through recognizable visual structures\, then gradually deconstructed through overlapping shapes\, interruptions\, and spatial ambiguity. This push and pull across the picture plane challenges the eye to continuously reorganize the image\, creating moments where foreground and background compete\, merge\, or dissolve into one another. In doing so\, the work mirrors the way perception itself functions – constantly searching for meaning\, connection\, and wholeness within fragmented experiences.

In this\, a well-meaning board of directors prides itself on consensus and inclusion. But when public health collides with personal beliefs\, even the most open-minded parents find themselves at odds. As tensions rise and Zoom meetings spiral into chaos\, the community must confront the uncomfortable truth: sometimes\, doing the right thing means not pleasing everyone. \nEureka Day premiered at Aurora Theatre Company in Berkeley\, California in April 2018 then moved to New York at Walkerspace the following year. DESCRIPTION:Since childhood\, Sarah Rocca has been captivated by the power of imagery\, the ability to freeze time and preserve memories through the art of painting with light. Her vivid imagination\, once confined to the colorful worlds she envisioned as a child\, found its voice through digital tools. This fusion of creativity and technology allowed Rocca to bring her unique perspective to life and share it with a broader audience. \nRocca’s use of color serves not only as a visual element but as a narrative device. Through her deliberate color choices\, she conveys mood\, emotion and unspoken subtext\, inviting viewers to engage with each piece on a personal level. An Exploration of Color is a visual memoir\, a journey through Rocca’s experiences of love\, divorce\, depression and joy. DESCRIPTION:Galleria Fort Lauderdale will host a special ribbon cutting ceremony to launch The Poppy Project Pop-Up Living Garden in support of Henderson Behavioral Health (HBH) in collaboration with the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee on Thursday\, September 10\, at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to join City of Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis and community leaders with singer Zachary Kopelman\, as they unveil this public art initiative designed to honor veterans while raising awareness and funds for critical mental health services. The cherished photo opportunity with the larger-than-life artistic poppy flowers will run through November 10 at Galleria Fort Lauderdale (2414 East Sunrise Blvd.) \nDesigned by South Florida based Ingham Landscaping and presented by Galleria Fort Lauderdale\, the two-month living garden will be a colorful and lively setting featuring the five-and 6-foot striking handcrafted fiberglass poppy flowers which are a remembrance of those who protect and serve our country. The inside mall garden will include a variety of tropical ornamental plants and shrubs that will complement the artistic poppy works of art sponsored by key community partners\, sponsors\, and supporters including The Leo Goodwin Foundation\, Arlene Pecora\, the Henderson Behavioral Health Board of Directors\, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL)\, USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee\, Community Foundation of Broward\, Disabled American Veterans-Gold Coast Chapter 133\, Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale and Galleria Fort Lauderdale. \nMall guests can take colorful photos and selfies to share online and connect with and donate to HBH’s virtual Legacy Wall which encourages friends and families to honor loved ones who have served or are currently serving our country. In this\, a well-meaning board of directors prides itself on consensus and inclusion. But when public health collides with personal beliefs\, even the most open-minded parents find themselves at odds. As tensions rise and Zoom meetings spiral into chaos\, the community must confront the uncomfortable truth: sometimes\, doing the right thing means not pleasing everyone. \nEureka Day premiered at Aurora Theatre Company in Berkeley\, California in April 2018 then moved to New York at Walkerspace the following year. Its European premiere at The Old Vic in September\, 2022 featured Mark McKinney\, Helen Hunt\, Susan Kelechi Watson\, Kirsten Foster and Ben Schnetzer. In 2024\, Eureka Day  premiered on Broadway at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre starring Bill Irwin\, Amber Gray\, Jessica Hecht\, Thomas Middleditch\, Chelsea Yakura-Kurtz and Eboni Flowers.  \nJonathan Spector is a Tony Award-winning playwright based in Oakland\, California\, whose work has been produced on and off-Broadway\, regionally and internationally. His plays include Eureka Day (2025 Best Revival: Tony Award\, Drama Desk Award\, Drama League Award & Dorian Award); This Much I Know (Edgerton Award\, Glickman Award\, BATCC Award); Birthright; Best Available; Siesta Key; and Good.
