I AM MY ANCESTORS

June 23 @ 10:00 am - September 16 @ 6:00 pm
Free
  • « 2ND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NURSING EDUCATION AND HEALTHCARE
  • An Exploration of Color »

In Appreciation of Black Independence, artist Will Simpson of Timelessartz created an exhibition celebrating Black Culture (Blacknicity). Dance, music, and poetry have always been embedded in the African American culture, and Blacknicity will be the exhibition to showcase it all. The importance of Ali Cultural Center for the exhibition is major. First of all, it’s in the heart of Pompano, which is a major African American community in Broward County. Blacknicity was created in 2021 by artist Will Simpson and co-founder John Cledor, to bring art to the community. Will Simpson has been a pillar in the Broward art scene for years now. He’s taught multiple workshops, murals, live painting, and events all throughout South Florida. Blacknicity is simply put, “Building our community from within.” Showing our youth that they have more than enough inside to be their best version of themselves. We gotta start uplifting each other, supporting one another, and being there for one another. We are not alone, and as a community, we must stand united. This show is about changing the narrative that our ancestors were slaves. When in reality, we came from royalty, warriors, and creatives. Our ancestors’ culture is much more than slavery; we are Kings and Queens. As you enjoy this show, please view each art piece with you in mind, and know that your life matters.
