After a two-year, $15 million redesign, the park at Las Olas Boulevard and the New River has reopened, and it’s doing exactly what a city space like this should do—pull people in and keep them there. Since its grand opening, the lawn has been full, the dog run busy and kids have claimed the play areas, while along the river, people have lingered instead of passing through.
The updates are noticeable. There’s more room to spread out, more shade built into the design and seating that invites you to sit for a while. The Riverwalk edge feels open again, and the entire space carries a sense that it belongs to everyone.
What stands out most is how naturally it fits into the rhythm of downtown. Residents walk over. Families settle in for the afternoon. Events like yoga, markets and movie nights give the park a lively atmosphere without overwhelming it.
There’s more coming, too. A riverfront restaurant, Sweetwaters, is expected to open, adding another layer of everyday activity to the space.
For a city that’s growing fast, this park feels like a reset. Not a one-time destination, but a place where people can show up, stay a while and feel part of what’s happening around them.
