Some of my most vivid childhood memories were made out on the water. Growing up in Fort Lauderdale, boating wasn’t just a pastime; it was our lifestyle. I spent countless weekends on the boat with my mom, dad and brother, sun-kissed and barefoot, cruising along the Intracoastal with music playing and the salty breeze in our hair. That’s how life felt: free, full and always tied to the sea. And now, I get to relive those same moments with my own children. Watching their joy as we push off the dock reminds me how deeply rooted our love for the water is and how lucky we are to live in a city that revolves around it.
October is special for many reasons, but in Fort Lauderdale, one ranks above all: the return of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the world’s largest. Of course, October wouldn’t be complete without a little magic, and for me, that means Halloween with the family. It’s one of my favorite holidays, hands down. Growing up, it was all about the thrill of picking out the perfect costume and loading up on candy. Now, it’s about sharing that joy with my kids and watching those traditions continue.
