Summer’s Best Served Here

Publisher’s Letter: July 2025

Celebrating our city’s vibrant culinary scene, family traditions and unforgettable Fourth of July festivities — this month is all about the moments that bring us together.

July holds a special place in my heart, particularly because it includes one of my favorite holidays — the Fourth of July. Growing up in Fort Lauderdale, many of my fondest childhood memories revolve around celebrating Independence Day with my family. My brother and I would wait eagerly until my dad returned home, arms filled with boxes of fireworks. As night fell, excitement and anticipation filled the air, ending in bursts of color lighting up our backyard. Those nights — filled with laughter, wonder and friendly competition over who could spot the best firework — became traditions I’ve cherished ever since.

Later, during my college years in Jacksonville, Independence Day celebrations were different yet equally thrilling. Each July Fourth, Jacksonville’s First Street transformed into a block party. Streets were packed with hundreds of bikers, vendors, food trucks, live music and festivities extending up and down the beach. Standing in the sand, surrounded by friends and neighbors, watching fireworks explode over the Atlantic Ocean, I felt that magic unique to summer events.

Today, enjoying the Fourth of July in Fort Lauderdale connects me with those joyful memories while offering the chance to create new traditions with my husband and children. Fortunately, our city knows how to put on a party. Here are just a few highlights of this year’s events that you won’t want to miss:
The LOOP (Las Olas Oceanside Park) hosts a full day of festivities starting at noon and concluding with a stunning fireworks display at 9:15 pm. With live bands, contests, beach games and a dynamic kids’ zone — complete with inflatable water slides, face painting and family-friendly activities — it’s a must-visit destination for families and friends.

Just up the coast, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea kicks off its beloved Fourth of July Parade and Family Fun Day at 10 am. After the parade, families can spend the day engaging in activities and savoring delicious food until the evening ushers in another spectacular fireworks display at 9 pm.

Speaking of celebrating traditions, we recently wrapped up our sixth DINE Fort Lauderdale series. This year’s event showcased incredible local culinary talent from Truluck’s, The Capital Grille, Timpano, Morton’s The Steakhouse and The Grateful Palate Catering & Events. The series was made even more exceptional thanks to our dedicated partners, Go Wine, Los Magos Sotol, Holman Motorcars, Petal & Passion, Lens Craving and Mike Connor, who enriched each evening. While this season has concluded, preparations are underway for next year’s series, which begins in January and runs through May. Stay tuned as we announce another lineup of culinary experiences celebrating the best of Fort Lauderdale dining.

In the meantime, this month’s Chef’s Corner shines the spotlight on Fort Lauderdale’s newest dining destination, Ocean Prime, located at the stunning Las Olas Marina. Known for its sophisticated menu of fresh seafood, prime steaks and remarkable handcrafted cocktails, Ocean Prime provides an elevated dining experience perfect for enjoying Fort Lauderdale’s breezy summer nights.

Wishing you all a safe, festive and unforgettable Fourth of July.
