There’s a fine line between themed and transportive, and Hula Kai Tiki Bar lands firmly on the right side of it. Walk in, and suddenly Fort Lauderdale feels a little less like Las Olas and a lot more like somewhere off the coast of Hawai’i.
The menu leans into bold, tropical flavors without overcomplicating things. It’s the kind of place where you start by “just sharing a few plates” and somehow end up ordering the Pu Pu Platter like it was always part of the plan. Thai Chicken Satay, Blue Corn Fried Calamari and Tuna Tacos set the tone early, while the Big Kahuna Shrimp Pineapple Fried Rice shows up loud, colorful and unapologetically indulgent.
And then there are the cocktails. This is not a one-and-done situation. Expect layered, fruit-forward drinks that feel equal parts vacation and celebration.
But the real move? Head upstairs. Ohana Rooftop Lounge, perched above the main bar, shifts the energy. The vibe is breezy but elevated, with skyline views, open air and that golden-hour glow that makes everything look better. It’s ideal for date nights, group hangs or those “let’s just go out for one” evenings that never quite end that way.
Hula Kai doesn’t try too hard. It doesn’t need to. It’s fun, a little escapist and exactly the kind of place you go when you want the night to feel a little out of the ordinary.
