Ahoy, Fort Lauderdale Friends!

  • June 28, 2024
  • Ashley Keshigian Thomas
Publisher’s Letter: June 2024

Dive into this ocean-themed issue with me and address the elephant in the room—or should I say, the algae in the water?

Yes, I’m talking about that not-so-refreshing discharge from Lake Okeechobee. You know, the one that’s turning our beloved beaches into something resembling the set of a sci-fi flick.

Let’s be real, our beaches are the true stars of the show here in Fort Lauderdale. But lately, they’ve been looking a bit under the weather, and it’s not just because they’ve caught a case of the blues. We’ve got a serious case of freshwater meets saltwater drama, and it’s wreaking havoc on our ecosystem faster than a seagull diving for a dropped fry.

But it’s not just our flippered friends feeling the heat. Our health is on the line too. Turns out, taking a dip in these polluted waters is about as safe as wrestling an alligator with a toothache.

As citizens of this sandy paradise, we can do our part to change this! Starting with something as simple as swapping out those boring cement seawalls for living ones that promote life. Hey, if we’re gonna build walls, they might as well be the green, leafy kind, right?

But it’s not all doom and gloom in this town. We’re here to remind you that bottomless cocktails are not just for moms anymore. That’s right, dads, it’s time to reclaim your brunch game and indulge in some day-drinking. From mimosas to bloody marys, we’ve scoured the city to find the best spots to sip and savor to your heart’s content.

Have you checked out Magnolia Caffee lately? This cozy coffee shop is not your average caffeine fix—it’s a full-blown experience. From vintage shopping to mouthwatering menu items, there’s something for everyone at this eclectic hotspot.

We’re also thrilled to introduce you to Even Keel Fish Shack’s newest location on Las Olas. With a focus on fresh, local seafood and creative cocktails, this place is sure to reel you in hook, line, and sinker.

So there you have it. From polluted waters to bottomless brunches, this issue has it all. So grab a cold one, kick back and dive into all the salty goodness Fort Lauderdale offers.

Until next time, keep calm and beach on!
