A tribute to family, meaningful memories and a night that gives back in the biggest way.
May has a way of bringing everything back to what matters most. It’s a month filled with meaning, from Mother’s Day to Memorial Day, and it naturally shifts our focus to family, gratitude and the people who shape our lives in the quietest and most powerful ways.
For me, Mother’s Day is deeply personal. My mom has always been the kind of person who shows up without being asked, gives without expecting anything in return and somehow makes everything easier just by being there. She is kind, caring and thoughtful in all the ways that truly matter. Growing up, she was guiding, supportive and loving without hesitation. Now a mom myself, I understand that role in a completely different way. I see the effort, the intention and the sacrifice behind it, and it has given me a whole new appreciation for everything she has done and continues to do.
May is also about creating those same kinds of memories with our own families. One of my favorite childhood memories was my fourth grade trip to Kennedy Space Center, which is featured in our Travel story this issue. It felt so huge and unforgettable at the time. This year, I had the chance to go back with my son for his 10th birthday, and in a full-circle moment, he’s also in fourth grade. Watching him experience it brought everything back in the best way.
Closer to home, we love jumping in the car and heading out to Everglades National Park to explore the wildlife, spot alligators and just be outside together. It’s simple, but those are the moments that stay with you—and that’s especially true in the summertime. If you need a little inspiration, explore what else there is to do locally this summer in our Feature story.
And that brings me to what makes this month so special for us. We conclude another incredible season of DINE Fort Lauderdale with our final Fusion Dinner on May 14, and this truly is the event that brings everything together. Hosted at The Grateful Palate Catering and Events, the evening features an all-star lineup of chefs coming together from Morton’s The Steakhouse, The Capital Grille, Truluck’s Ocean’s Finest Seafood & Crab, The Grateful Palate Catering and Events and Timpano. Each chef presents a course, creating a one-night-only five-course, wine-paired experience that showcases the very best of our local culinary scene.
This is our biggest night, fueled by the generosity of our partners and community, with proceeds benefiting the Emeril Lagasse Foundation. It’s more than just a dinner; it’s a celebration, a collaboration and a chance to be part of something meaningful. Tickets are limited and will sell out quickly, so visit flmag.com/dine or scan the QR code below to reserve your seat.
May reminds us that the best moments are often the ones shared with family, with friends and with a community that comes together for something bigger than itself.
This is one of those moments.
