Celebrating Haitian Cinema Curated Short Films by Haitian Filmmaker Al’Ikens Plancher

Stories of Haiti on screen, paired with bold spices of its cuisine is the perfect blend!

Don’t miss our “Celebrating Haitian Cinema: Curated Short Films” event, hosted by award-winning Haitian filmmaker Al’Ikens Plancher (known for The Chi and Yellowstone).

This immersive evening invites you to celebrate the rich culture, history, and resilience of Haiti as the first country in the Western Hemisphere, through captivating films and authentic Haitian dishes.

These six films on screen will bring you closer to the heart of Haiti’s stories:
1. “Boat People” – An Oscar-qualified short that tells the survival tale of a Haitian refugee after a military coup, filmed in Broward County and Miami-Dade.
2. “Konpa” – A young Haitian-American reconnects with his roots by learning the iconic Konpa dance to impress his crush.
3. “La Vie” – A Haitian couple’s love story spans three time periods, all set against the backdrop of Haiti’s shores.
4. “Prestige” – Set in 1813 Haiti, this fictional podcast follows Léonie Bijoux’s rise to power as the royal clothier, navigating sacrifice and ambition.
5. “Tifi” – A young girl struggles to buy soccer cleats, fighting against bullies to pursue her passion for the game.
6. “Remnants” – An elderly writer struggles with Alzheimer’s while facing the dark secrets of his past.

While supplies last, enjoy the rich, flavorful spices of authentic Haitian dishes, adding a delicious touch to your cinematic journey. Don’t miss this opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the culture of Haiti with us!

Pay What You Can model – any amount you choose to offer is truly appreciated and gladly accepted.
