From Passion Projects to Pistachio Dreams

Some bakers follow a recipe. Others, like La Cake Café, rewrite the book.

A lifelong lover of the arts, La Cake Café’s owner and pastry chef Gisele Labate’s journey from sketching in notebooks to piping petals onto cakes feels almost destined. “When I discovered custom cakes, I fell in love with the idea of crafting my own recipes and creating unique flavor combinations,” she says. Her cakes aren’t just dessert; they’re edible centerpieces crafted with intention, artistry and a generous swirl of heart.

Among the café’s bestsellers: Cake To Go cups in over 30 flavors, including pistachio-on-pistachio and vanilla layered with dulce de leche. Also flying off the shelves? Tres Leches, passion fruit mousse and a cult-favorite Brazilian carrot cake available in multiple sizes, including a “volcano” version that erupts with sauce. This is not your average cake counter.

After more than two decades of baking from home, Gisele opened her storefront: an unforgettable milestone that combined her creative spirit with a bold, entrepreneurial leap. “It was a mix of the most wonderful feelings,” she says, “happiness and excitement mixed with love and hope.”

The café’s newest location isn’t just about cakes, it’s designed with mentorship in mind. Gisele is now focused on sharing her knowledge through classes and one-on-one guidance for aspiring bakers. “I want to help grow the next generation of cake artists,” she says.

And yes, La Cake Café has had its moment in the spotlight. Gisele’s appearance on “Sugar Rush” (Season 2, Episode 4 “Made With Love”) brought national attention to her talent and passion. “It was unforgettable,” she says. “The exposure helped elevate the business, but more than anything, it was a celebration of how far I’ve come.”

At La Cake Café, dessert isn’t just the final course; it’s the main event.
