Goodman Jewish Family Services of Broward County GJFS held its 10th annual KOLOT “Breaking the Silence” Luncheon, sponsored by Verizon Wireless, to raise funds and awareness for domestic abuse issues. New state Sen. Lauren Book, founder of Lauren’s Kids, received the 2017 Ending Abuse Award. An abuse survivor and advocate for survivors of childhood sexual abuse, Book told nearly 400 attendees how hard it is as a child victim to find your voice, come forward and break the silence. Among others recognized during the event was Randee Lefkow, who was honored for her role in the creation of the KOLOT coalition in 1999.
