Annual Celebration to Be Held at Trinity Cathedral, Miami, on Saturday, June 28th at 10:00 a.m.

The Reverend Pauli Murray was a visionary legal scholar, civil rights activist, poet, and the first African American woman ordained as a priest in The Episcopal Church. A tireless advocate for racial and gender equality, her groundbreaking work laid the foundation for landmark civil rights legislation and continues to inspire movements for justice across the world.

In honor of her life and legacy, The Episcopal Church in Southeast Florida invites the community to its annual Pauli Murray Celebration on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Cathedral, Miami, located at 464 NE 16th Street, Miami, FL 33132.

This year’s preacher will be the Reverend Dr. Donna S. Mote, an Episcopal priest, theologian, and storyteller.

The gathering will include a screening of a documentary on the life and impact of Pauli Murray, followed by a time of reflection and the welcoming of new members into the Pauli Murray Justice and Peace Community. A light reception will follow.

The commemoration of Pauli Murray is observed on July 1st. Each year, this celebration offers a sacred space to reflect on her prophetic witness and renew our shared commitment to building a more just and compassionate world.

All are welcome.

For more information about the event, please contact The Venerable Canon J. Fritz Bazin at socialjustice@diosef.org.
