The Language of Love

Family roots, old-world recipes and modern flair come together at the newest Italian dining experience.

Walk into Zito’s Italian Restaurant on Federal Highway, and you’ll feel it instantly: warmth, welcome and the unmistakable aroma of garlic, tomatoes and freshly baked bread. There’s a buzz of conversation, the flicker of candlelight on wine glasses and an energy that’s both refined and relaxed. It’s not just another Italian restaurant; it’s a love letter to family, heritage and the art of doing things the right way.

“Zito’s is our way of bringing real Italian hospitality and flavor to Fort Lauderdale,” says Christopher Zito, the restaurant’s co-founder. “Everything we do is about authenticity, from our chef, who’s from Napoli, to the bread and dough we make fresh in the kitchen every day. We’re not trying to be trendy — we’re a family-driven kitchen that believes in doing things right.”

That philosophy is at the heart of every plate. Fresh pastas are made in-house daily. Sauces simmer for hours. Ingredients arrive from different regions across Italy, each selected for purity and character. “Every region brings its own flavor,” Zito says. “We work with trusted importers who share our passion for quality, making sure everything we serve captures the true taste of Italy.”

The menu reflects that dedication. There’s the Branzino alla Livornese, a whole Mediterranean sea bass roasted with tomatoes, capers, Kalamata olives and white wine, served over sautéed spinach. “It reminds me of the seaside towns in Italy,” Zito says. “It’s simple, delicate and deserves way more attention.”

And then there’s the Gnocchi Dello Chef: handmade gnocchi in a creamy pistachio sauce, finished with 24-karat gold leaf. “It’s the perfect example of what Zito’s stands for,” he says. “Luxury meets authenticity.”

Zito’s journey to this point has been as grounded as the food itself. “My partner and I have worked in the restaurant business for years, from the ground up — every job you can imagine,” Zito explains. “We shared a vision: to create something real, not trendy. We saved every dollar and took a leap. Zito’s became that dream come true — a place built from scratch by people who genuinely care about the craft.”

That authenticity extends beyond the kitchen. “Hospitality is everything,” Zito says. “You can serve great food, but if guests don’t feel cared for, they won’t remember the experience. We treat every table like family — with warmth, attention and genuine care.”

That familial approach shows in the atmosphere. Zito’s feels as natural for a date night as it does for a family dinner… a balance that was fully intentional. “We wanted to build a place where everyone feels comfortable,” Zito explains. “Whether you’re on a romantic night out or having Sunday dinner with your kids, everything from the lighting to the music is designed to make you feel at home.”

That sense of home is no coincidence. For Zito, food has always been tied to family. He’s currently working on introducing a Sunday Sauce tradition, an ode to his childhood. “It’s an old-school Italian tradition that reminds me of growing up — everyone around the table, slow-cooked meatballs, sausage and braciola simmering for hours,” he says. “It’s the kind of meal that brings people together and reminds us why we started this place.”

While rooted in tradition, Zito’s isn’t afraid of evolution. “Our foundation is 100% traditional, but we’re not afraid to modernize presentation or flavor profiles to fit today’s palate,” he says. “Our chef stays true to his roots in Napoli while letting creativity shine through. You’ll taste that mix of old-world authenticity and modern refinement in every dish.”

Zito’s identity also reflects the city it calls home. “Fort Lauderdale has this incredible mix of cultures and energy, and we wanted Zito’s to reflect that,” Zito says. “People here appreciate authenticity. They know when something’s real. The community’s support has pushed us to keep raising the bar every single day.”

That commitment to excellence is why the restaurant has quickly found its place among Fort Lauderdale’s standout dining destinations. “We didn’t want to compete,” Zito says. “We wanted to belong. Our focus has always been on quality, consistency and creating a memorable experience. While other places chase trends, we stick to the fundamentals — great food, fantastic service and a genuine atmosphere.”

As for what’s next, Zito’s future looks as promising as its past. “We’re always evolving,” he says. “Right now, our focus is on perfecting every detail — from service to seasonal specials. Expansion is definitely on our radar, but only when the time feels right. For now, we’re putting all our energy into making Zito’s the best Italian experience in Fort Lauderdale… one plate at a time.”
