A guide to the top nine things to do in the Cowboy State during the warmer months.

With its vast landscapes and untamed beauty, Wyoming offers adventurers and nature lovers a summer playground.

1. Hiking in Wyoming’s National Parks
Wyoming is home to some of the country’s most spectacular hiking trails. Yellowstone National Park offers diverse landscapes, from steaming geysers to lush valleys. Trails like the Lamar Valley are perfect for wildlife watching. Over at Grand Teton National Park, the Teton Range provides a dramatic backdrop for scenic hikes like the Jenny Lake Loop. For those seeking solitude, Big Horn Canyon National Recreation Area features stunning vistas and quiet trails.

2. Horseback Riding in Jackson Hole
Experience the essence of the West with a horseback ride in Jackson Hole. This iconic valley is surrounded by mountains and trails offering breathtaking views. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, local stables have your perfect horse and trail.

3. ATV and Off-Roading at Killpecker Sand Dunes
Thrill-seekers will find their adrenaline fix at Killpecker Sand Dunes, one of North America’s largest living dune systems. Navigate through the dunes on an ATV, feeling the rush as you conquer each sandy peak. The area also boasts unique rock formations and a chance to spot the rare desert elk.

4. Camping at Jenny Lake Campground

5. Fly Fishing in Seminole State Park
Anglers will revel in the superb fly fishing of Seminole State Park. Cast your line in the serene waters and wait for the tug of Wyoming’s native cutthroat trout. The park’s remote beauty adds to the peaceful fishing experience.

6. Experience a Rodeo at Cheyenne Frontier Days
No summer visit to Wyoming is complete without experiencing the excitement of a rodeo. Cheyenne Frontier Days, known as the “Daddy of ‘em All,” is the world’s largest outdoor rodeo. Witness skilled cowboys and cowgirls in action, from thrilling bull riding to competitive roping.

7. Stay at a Dude Ranch
Live out your cowboy dreams at Hideout Lodge and Guest Ranch. This authentic dude ranch offers a hands-on approach to ranch life. Guests can partake in cattle drives, horse training and even ranch management while enjoying the comfort of luxurious accommodations.

8. Relax in Hot Springs at Hot Springs State Park
After days filled with adventure, unwind in the natural mineral hot springs of Hot Springs State Park. The soothing waters are relaxing and believed to have healing properties. Take a dip in the State Bath House, which maintains the water at a therapeutic 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

9. Join the Festivities at Laramie Jubilee Days
Celebrate Wyoming’s heritage at the Laramie Jubilee Days festival. This annual event features a range of activities, including a professional rodeo, parades and live music. It’s a family-friendly celebration of Western culture and history.

Whether you’re climbing rugged peaks, riding through open meadows or soaking in warm springs, Wyoming summers are as diverse as they are exhilarating. From the wild heart of Yellowstone to the serene expanses of Hot Springs State Park, every corner of Wyoming promises a unique adventure.
