This Seven Isles home represents a style with a long history that’s hot right now in Fort Lauderdale.

The massive, pastel blue home greets with Caribbean-style louvered garage doors and Chippendale balcony terrace railings. These elements point towards an increasingly popular home style trend in South Florida, the British Colonial/West Indies. This West Indies-style home is located in Seven Isles and offers an expansive view of the Middle River and Intracoastal Waterway, plus a boat slip.

The style is enjoying a moment in South Florida, but as the name indicates, it has been around for a long time. Dating from the British Caribbean colonies during the late 18th and 19th centuries, its mostly popular on the islands of Turks and Caicos, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Barbados – and now in Fort Lauderdale.

This home replicates the West Indies style with a more transitional and modern flair by adding simple yet sophisticated furniture in the living room and dining area while featuring modern accent pieces and glass pendant lighting throughout. Multiple large windows provide an abundance of natural sunlight throughout.

As befits the Caribbean style, the home aims to have a relaxed, casual style while also sustaining opulence. Rooms are brightly colored and feature vibrant abstract art, walnut wooden flooring throughout and plantation shutters.

Distinctive custom crown molding ceilings are featured in different areas in side the home. Whether it’s the ceiling in the foyer with a more sophisticated contemporary crown molding design near the chandelier that hangs above the dramatic staircase and the piano, or the tray crown ceiling with rope lighting in the formal dining room, the design work offers a middle place between modern and island classical. A wooden walnut crown tile ceiling with a ceiling fan makes for a more relaxed and refined British Colonial/West Indies style in the family room/den.

Although this home is made for relaxed and casual living, it features show-stopping pieces that are far from casual – from the exquisite wine room next to the wet bar that holds over 250 wine bottles to the glass elevator to the fireplaces throughout to the chef’s kitchen with Viking appliances. This spacious home also offers five bedrooms that include two master suites and two VIP guest rooms. The outdoor area includes an infinity pool and dining area.
