Wild Hibiscus Flowers in Syrup
Simple concept. You drop the hibiscus into a glass of bubbly – say, a New Year’s Eve champagne – and watch as it opens up and “blooms” in the glass. Oh, and it comes in a cane sugar syrup that also adds a sweet kick to the champagne. This fun Australian creation adds flair – and taste – to any New Year’s toast. Available at Fernanda’s
Walkers Glenfiddich Mince Pies
First, a word about the mince in this English holiday staple. It is not meat; It’s more of a fruity, treacle-y mixture. It’s a small, sweet, pastry-encased treat that’s ubiquitous in England around the holidays. And for a grownup version, may we direct you to the ones dessert food company Walkers makes with Scotch whisky Glenfiddich. (You can also get a non-alcohol-drenched version for the whole family.) Available at Pond Hoppers
Wicklein Lebkuchen
These traditional cookies and sweets are popular at German markets around the holidays. Sometimes you can find big, ornate ones with designs like a cake. But these are a more manageable size and easier for sharing. Not that you can’t also eat the whole batch on your own. Available at Fernanda’s
Cadbury’s Selection Box
There’s nothing complicated about the selection box. It’s a massive box filled with a mixture of chocolates and other sweets from a popular confectioner. Halloween was never a massive British holiday (it is now, and for this they blame us), so they never really needed massive candy boxes in October. So they get doled out as gifts – or noshed on for days – in December instead. Available at Pond Hoppers
