1. Coquito
If you’re looking for an island take on eggnog, this Puerto Rican holiday favorite is basically a coconut variant. There are many recipes out there; the basic drink goes like this. Take a can each of evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk and cream of coconut. Also take two beaten egg yolks, a half cup of water, half a cup of white rum and a teaspoon each of ground cinnamon and vanilla extract. Combine the egg yolks and evaporated milk over low heat until they’re a thick substance. Put in a blender with everything else, blend for 30 seconds and let it set up for at least one night.
And as with any eggnog drink, you can leave out the rum for a family-friendly and tasty concoction.
2. Christmas Cosmo
There’s some debate about exactly what makes up the more festive version of the classic Cosmopolitan; the main thing is that it puts cranberry juice to good use. We suggest it this way. Mix two parts cranberry juice and one part vodka along with the juice of five limes and sliced stem ginger to taste. Then shake and strain as you would a regular Cosmo. Other ingredient variants include crème de violette and ginger wine.
3. The Dreidel
This perfect-for-Hanukkah cocktail packs a punch, which might have something to do with the two ounces of plum brandy and half ounce of cherry liqueur that go into it. You’ll also need two ounces of apple juice and a half ounce of lemon juice. Give it a hard shake with ice and strain it into glasses. It’ll make for one happy night – or eight of them.

I love that Fort Lauderdale is growing in the hospitality industry but instructions like these might be hurting more than helping. The measurements are not accurate enough, there is not a description of shaking/building technique, and on paper the drinks sound unbalanced. This absolutely matters because as a bartender I know that the average guest has little to no experience in these instances. If we are to ever build a cocktail culture in this city we need to raise the bar (no pun intended).
