Loaded in Luxury

  • September 21, 2022

This year’s cars include revived classics, debuts and innovative supercars.

1. Ferrari Daytona SP3

Powertrain: Naturally aspirated 6.5 liter v12 mid-engine (behind driver)
Horsepower: 828 hp
Speed: Max 211 mph; 0 to 60 in 2.85 seconds

The name is a nod to Ferrari’s one-two-three finish in the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona, and only 599 have been built. Known for performance driven by aerodynamics and suspension, the Ferrari Daytona SP3’s rear end has a stack of body-colored bars wrapped around the back to cleverly disguise the venting required to deal with the thermal loads from the mighty engine. It revs to 9500 rpm courtesy of the new titanium connecting rods (which are 40 percent lighter), new pistons, a lighter and rebalanced crankshaft and sliding finger cam followers borrowed from Ferrari’s Formula 1 engines. The two-seater features an upgraded version of Ferrari’s Side Slip Control system and is the first v12 to have the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer, which allows drivers to drift. (Note: the police may not care about your car’s Dynamic Enhancer if you’re drifting around town.) As for the interior, the $2.3 million car resembles a race car with fixed seats; you can adjust the steering wheel and pedal box but the seats remain in place.

2. Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4

Powertrain: Hybrid with mid-mounted 6.5 liter engine v12 & 48v electric motor
Horsepower: 803 hp
Speed: Max 221 mph; 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds

At a staggering $2.6 million, the Countach is back. The first Countach was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 50 years ago; the new model pays homage to the original with its trademark hexagonal wheel arches and scissor doors. Modern features include the interior which resembles the Sian; however, the red and black upholstery is reminiscent of its debut. The low, geometric cabin complements the lines of the exterior while the exclusive range of single-color, two-color and carbon fiber trim preserves the fundamental yet unconventional style of a timeless classic. Lamborghini describes it best: “inspired by the past, made for the future.”

3. Lucid Air Grand Touring

Powertrain: 118.9-kWh battery pack
Horsepower: 1050 hp (currently most powerful electric vehicle available in North America)
Speed: Max 169 mph; 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds

“Relentless range, supercar speed, lavish luxury…,” is how Lucid describes its debut vehicle. Let’s talk facts. With a range of up to 446 of epa, the ability to go 0 to 60 tenths of a second faster than a Ferrari and elegant interior features (we’ll get into that later), it’s safe to say they are right. Lucid’s founder, CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson, is the former VP of engineering and chief engineer of Tesla Model S, so he knows a thing or two about building a well-rounded car of the future. Speaking of, the 900V+ charging system is ultra-fast, enabling users to add up to 300 miles in 21 minutes at a 350 kW DC fast charger. Interior features include four themes, all inspired by Lucid’s design home in California with luxurious leather and wood trims. As you would expect, the technology is advanced and includes the DreamDrive Pro, a state-of-the-art driver assistance system with more than 30 features and future-ready hardware including the first semi-autonomous driving system in North America with over-the-air software updates.

4. Bentley Bentayga EWB

Powertrain: 4.0 liter v8 engine
Horsepower: 542 bhp
Speed: Max 180mph; 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds

The Bentley Bentayga is back as an Extended Wheel Base model. What makes it different from its predecessor? Well, it is 7 inches longer than the standard, making it 208.9 overall in length (most of the extra space is in the rear). You may also notice something familiar with the vertical vaned grille, reminiscent of the Flying Spur. For the interior, the optional Bentley Diamond Illumination (which allows LED lighting to shine through the upholstery) is unique to this model. In addition, the new Bentayga introduces the most advanced seat ever fitted to a vehicle, called the Airline Seat. So, what does this mean? The seat will automatically react to humidity and the passenger’s body temperature to independently heat and cool different areas to ensure maximum comfort – perfect for South Florida weather. The seats also use 177 pressure points across six pressure zones, which is comparable to a three-hour massage; the rear seats can recline, and there’s a footrest. As for performance, the drivetrain is all-wheel-drive with rear wheel steering, allowing for a tighter turning radius than the original model.

5. Tesla Roadster

Powertrain: 200-kWh
Horsepower: 1360 hp
Speed: Max 250; 0 to 60 in 1.9 seconds

Tesla designed the Roadster with a theme in mind: performance and aero efficiency. The all-electric supercar maximizes the potential of aerodynamic engineering with record-setting performance and efficiency. Keeping with the record-setting trend, Tesla claims this is the first supercar to set every performance record and still fit seating for four (two small seats in the back). The brand is also known for their sleek and futuristic look; they don’t fall short here either. The coupe features a lightweight, removable glass roof that stores in the trunk for a convertible experience. One more feature you may notice: there are no sideview mirrors. It’s important to keep in mind however that this information comes from Elon Musk and none of these specs have been validated just yet.

6. GMC Hummer EV Pickup

Powertrain: 3 motors; liquid-cooled lithium-ion, 212.7 kWh
Horsepower: 1000
Speed: Max 106 mph; 0 to 60 in 3 seconds

More than a decade after it was discontinued, the Hummer is back and it’s bringing groundbreaking innovations with it. The CrabWalk is available as a 4-wheel steer setting where rear wheels can turn up to 10 degrees in either direction to drive diagonally at slow speeds. The Extract Mode is the first of its kind and allows its adjustable air suspension to raise six inches to surmount obstacles like water or boulders. The resurrected truck can tow up to 7500 pounds and features a five-foot-long bed. Plus, the visibility is immaculate with the Ultra Vision feature – with up to 18 camera views including standard HD Surround Vision (waterproof underbody forward-and-rear-facing cameras for real-time views of the terrain), a washer function and replaceable lens protectors to help you see clearly at all times, multiple cameras to display a digital overhead image of the surrounding area and it allows you to navigate off-road and tight spaces when traveling at low speeds. In addition, the Hummer reintroduces a T-Top-esque design popular in GM sports and muscle cars of the 1970s and 1980s.
