A classic mid-century modern house has a new lease on life thanks to a stylish and respectful remodel.
The home, which sits on the east bank of the Middle River in Coral Ridge, was built in 1961. Light, airy and open, with high-beamed ceilings and large windows, it’s a prime example of what is perhaps Fort Lauderdale’s most distinctive architectural style. The remodel, overseen by general contractor Alessandro Potenti of Double P Construction, aimed to modernize and add amenities without infringing on what makes the house such a special and uniquely Floridian space in the first place. The 3,678-sq.-ft. home, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, offers a distinctly angular look from Middle River Drive. Inside, more mid-century delights await.
The kitchen, which offers river views, has been opened up and made into an open-plan space with a center island and custom cabinets. Double P added stacked stone at various points throughout the house, including in the master bathroom. The master bedroom is to the rear of the house and angled for optimal viewing, with windows giving a panoramic view of the Middle River and sliding doors leading to the backyard and pool. A large rec room also faces the water. Expansive and high-ceilinged, it has room for several sofas and a pool table.
In the backyard, Double P added a pergola that extends from the house towards the pool. On the other side of the pool, lush Floridian landscaping gives a resort feel.
