Land & Sea

Terra Mare, Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach, 551 N Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., 954.414.5100, conradhotels3.hilton.com
Terra Mare (it’s Italian for “land and sea”) is the Conrad’s casual-sophisticated take on locally sourced surf-and-turf dining. The menu incorporates dishes such as tuna crudo and braised octopus. However, their nontraditional tableside preparation of large dishes has proved to be their distinguishing trait. These include heritage breed kan kan pork chop and harissa-spiced whole chicken tagine. The restaurant includes a full bar and brunch on the weekend.

What’s Kraken?

Octopus Lobby Bar Plunge Beach Hotel, 4660 El Mar Dr., Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, 754.200.3346, plungebeachhotel.com
The third and final (for now) installment of Plunge Beach Hotel’s highly anticipated string of restaurants and cafes has officially opened and offers guests an eclectic dining experience. Octopus Lobby Bar’s artsy vibe is complete with gastro cuisine in tapas style or larger portions. The latter features Florida shrimp tagliatelle and grilled octopus paired with white beans, cured chorizo and parsley oil. The libation options include a selection of custom cocktails, wines and locally brewed craft beers.

Feel the Burn

Firehouse Subs, 1607 E Sunrise Blvd., 954.522.8294, firehousesubs.com
The classic sub shop – generous portions, not much for your diet – has come to Sunrise. At Firehouse Subs, you have the option to create your own or select items from their menu comprised of hot gourmet sandwiches, cold subs or salads. Take your pick between Italian, club, beef and brisket, cheesesteaks and more. Whatever you decide, you’ll end up wanting to come back for more.
