Pancake Paradise

  • August 1, 2019
  • FLMag Staff
The pancake’s one of those hard-working, versatile foods. It can be filled with something sweet or something savory. It can be all fancied up, or it can be served with nothing but maple syrup. It can be for breakfast, or it can be for whenever else. Here are a few of our favorite spots for some spatula-flipping goodness.

The Peter Pan Diner

1216 E Oakland Park Blvd., mypeterpandiner.com
Oh sure, you can have your fancy pancakes with all the bells, whistles and exotic fruits. But sometimes, you just want good, honest diner pancakes at a place with a massive laminated menu and bottomless coffee refills. In that case, head to the spot next to the railroad tracks where the Oakland Park Kiwanis Club has been meeting once a week since before anybody remembers.

The Foxy Brown

723 E Broward Blvd., myfoxybrown.com
The FB’s brunch menu offers a little pancake subsection including raspberry and white chocolate pancakes, Bananas Foster pancakes, a featured pancake of the day and good old, straight-up “Plain Jane” pancakes.

O-B House

333 Himmarshee St., o-bhouse.com
The least expensive pancake on the menu checks in at $17, but you get quality for your money here. Blueberry and corn, andouille and corn, Belgium white chocolate with Madagascar vanilla bean, various fruit combinations with pecan – these cast-iron baked, buttermilk creations are a cut above.

Fresh First

1637 SE 17th St., freshfirst.com
Pancakes can be a no-go for the gluten-sensitive. But this gluten-free and vegan-friendly café lets everybody in on the fun with all their dishes, including their cinnamon-infused pancakes.
