The new Plunge Beach Hotel adds another eatery to Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. Backflip Beach Bar offers the right light bites and beverages any beach-goer would need to sit back and relax with. The cocktails stay true to the beach theme, being named after cult classics featuring the sea – try the “Bigger Boat Needed” or “There Was Room for Two.” As for those bites? They include street tacos, grilled steak sandwiches, fried fish catch of the day and, of course, juicy burgers. From local brews to rum cocktails to fresh juice blends to tasty treats, all you need by the sea is right here.
This elaborate confection of waterfalls, gardens and thatched roofs along U.S. 1 has been around so long that things Polynesian are once again hip. You can enjoy dinner and a show (dances of the South Pacific) or hang out at the Molokai Bar – which hosts a popular happy hour – with the other retro trendies.
Il Paesano emphasizes fresh ingredients, quality food and spreading love. There’s no set menu, only daily specials determined by the fresh ingredients that are found in the market. During the week there are about 15 to 16 different dishes. And owner Vergilio Peixoto has no freezers; from the pasta to the tomato sauce, everything is made fresh in-house. Il Paesano’s chef formerly owned Vesuvio, which was a popular Italian restaurant in Fort Lauderdale back in its heyday.
Il Paesano has a wide variety of wines and the private wine room can also be used as a more intimate setting for couples to dine. (There have been marriage proposals, Peixoto reports.) And if you want to know more about wine, Peixoto hosts a winetasting class every month. But be quick – the classes tend to fill up within minutes of being announced.
The owners have come a long way from New York, and we don’t blame them. Fort Lauderdale’s more of a seafood town, anyway. This unique walk-up kitchen and outdoor dining concept is perfect for socially distanced dining. Menu items include New England-style lobster clambakes (steamed fresh lobster, clams, shrimp, mussels, corn on the cob and potato), fish fry baskets, buckets of mussels or clams, sandwiches, pasta and more.

Chef Oliver Saucy and general manager Darrel Broek have earned this restaurant distinction as one of the nation’s best, with a menu updated daily featuring the best local ingredients. Dishes include: duck confit phyllo purses with raspberry-glazed beets, pearl onions and chives; and three-peppercorn filet mignon with three-cheese potato au gratin and shallot-thyme butter.
This traditional Italian place serves generous portions of familiar fare.
A family-owned restaurant serving upscale comfort food from chicken potpie to pigs in a blanket to Janice’s meatloaf and fried green tomatoes. And yes, drinks are served in Mason jars.
A local place to gather at the table and enjoy modern American dining. The Rusty Hook tavern boasts local brew and craft cocktails with a causal atmosphere. See their website for great deals at 50% off specials during the week.
This authentic Thai restaurant guarantees only native flavors in their unique dinner offerings. Notable menu items include grilled whole squid marinated in house special sauce, Choo Chee Snapper (whole fried snapper with Thai choo chee curry sauce), Thai curry dishes and stir fry.
It started as a food truck, but Fat Boyz gained so much popularity they decided to give the people what they wanted – a brick-and-mortar restaurant. Owners Jarael and Yolanda are Pompano Beach locals who wanted to bring their best southern barbecue to the FTL. We recommend their number-one seller, the Mac Daddy – pulled pork topped with smoked mac and cheese on a kaiser roll. They also offer food truck catering and private party catering.
Among the favorites here are the Sonora Burrito, featuring chicken sautéed in homemade sour cream and lime sauce, and chilaquiles (aka Mexican lasagna). On Wednesdays the Top Shelf Ultimate Golden Margaritas, made with freshly-squeezed lime juice, are $5.99.
Kitchenetta was opened in 2004 by chef Vincent Foti and wife Maria as a come-as-you-are casual eatery that pumps out top-notch Italian fare with a modern touch. The menu rotates seasonally and includes as many organic and local ingredients as possible. Individual and family-sized portions are offered, so you can mangia some rigatoni bolognese de medici all by yourself or share with your favorite famiglia.
Almost any seafood you can think of is offered at Crafty Crab. The chain promises to use only the freshest seafood and most authentic food in the area. Menu items include crab meat fries, oysters, seafood boils and platters and much more.
Las Orquideas (“The Orchids”) serves authentic Colombian and Latin American cuisine. Small and bright, the restaurant is often crowded with customers sitting over plates filled with steaks, beans, plantains, chorizo and rice. Some come in just for the baked goods, which include the gluten-free pandebono.
Casual restaurant serving Spanish-style food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Caribbean zest rules at this restaurant located right next to Funky Buddha Brewery. This food spot offers huge portions with a Haitian twist on dishes such as oxtail, fried fish and curry goat. Wash down your plate of spiced meats, red beans and rice, sweet plantains and a salad with the restaurant’s Haitian Martini for the full Caribbean experience, and enjoy your meal while watching a game or two on their giant projector TV.
The brewery’s Oakland Park taproom recently launched its Craft Food Counter and Kitchen. Chef Jeff Vincent has come up with a menu that mixes down home with uptown – it’s bar food, but not as you might know it. Perfect-with-beer dishes include the Mighty Tatanka (a bison/pork belly blend with sweet onions and buffalo mozzarella), Craft Brat or Main Street Pork Sandwich.
Enjoy a cocktail overlooking the ocean while listening to live music. This beachside bar and bistro offers small bites at the bar, while the main dining room serves lunch, dinner, brunch and sushi with selections including honey soy glazed salmon, a dolphin sandwich, and lobster, shrimp and crab omelets.
The two-story restaurant sits on Pompano Beach Pier and offers oceanfront dining. Executive chef Brian Cantrell has crafted a menu of locally sourced seafood. In addition, the custom-built, 5,000-square-foot outdoor bar shows off the stunning Atlantic views as you sip on a cocktail.
