1. Wynwood Brewery Pop’s Porter
The Miami brewery’s porter won a gold medal in the Robust Porter category a few years back at the Great American Beer Festival. The “Pops” it’s named after is the dad of Wynwood founder Luis Brignoni – so in addition to St. Paddy’s Day, this is also a good one to save for Fathers’ Day.
2. Cigar City Brewing Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout
Those Tampa-based scamps at Cigar City make a big deal about their annual March Hunahpu release. There’s not the usual beer festival around Hunahpu’s Day this year (the name comes from Mayan mythology) but if you’re quick, you can still snatch up some of this tasty stout made with cinnamon, vanilla, cacao nibs and chile peppers.
3. Florida Keys Brewing Company Rum Smuggler
Here’s a dark beer with a truly Keys twist. The brewery takes its Smuggler’s Moon oatmeal stout and then gives it added flavor – and history – by aging it in Key West Distillery rum barrels. The result is a tasty tipple from the Islamorada brewery.
4. Invasive Species Brewing Night Goggles
Of course we couldn’t forget our great Fort Lauderdale breweries. Don’t get it twisted, Invasive is as native as they come. And their Night Goggles is a consistently great dry stout. Plus if you need something to wear for a St. Patrick’s Day party, at least one of their awesome shirts probably comes in green.
