Candy Corn Martini
Say “candy corn martini” and you’ll get one of two reactions. Some people will find it a fun Halloween treat. Others will have to go off to be violently ill. This drink is for the first group. You need: candy corn (duh), vodka, orange liqueur and lemon juice. First, you put the candy corn in the vodka. Some will tell you they need to sit like that for a week; others will say a couple hours is good. Guess it depends on how much you want your vodka to taste like candy corn. When you’re done infusing, strain the vodka. Add 3½ to 4 oz of vodka to 1½ oz of orange liqueur and the juice of half a lemon. For a real party, some people put whipped cream on top.
Bloody Sunrise
Basically, this is just a tequila sunrise where, instead of thoroughly mixing in the grenadine, you just pop it on top and let it slowly trickle down like so much B-movie blood. Over ice, pour 1½ parts tequila, 1 part orange liqueur, an ounce of orange juice and stir. Then add the grenadine to the top and let the horror commence.
Funky Buddha Last Snow
Not everybody wants a cocktail, we get that. Some people want a beer. But perhaps … a spooky beer? Last Snow’s a seasonal release from the Oakland Park beer wizards over at Funky Buddha; it’s a black-as-the-night coffee porter that, because this is Florida, also has notes of coconut.
Dark n’ Stormy
It was a dark and stormy … cocktail. Made famous by Bermuda’s Gosling’s Rum, this is a fairly straightforward highball drink. There are many different recipes out there; the official Gosling’s one calls for 1.5 oz of Gosling’s Black Seal Rum and a can of Gosling’s Stormy Ginger Beer. You fill a tall glass with ice, then add 4 to 5 oz of the ginger beer, then the rum. and top with Gosling’s Black Seal Rum. Perfect for wearing all black and staring out to sea in search of your One True Love.
