Thankful Fare

  • November 7, 2019

Want to leave the cooking and washing up to somebody else this Thanksgiving? We picked three local favorite restaurants that do a special menu for the big day.

El Vez

On the beach, modern Mexican restaurant El Vez has a unique take on Thanksgiving. Their El Vez Mexican-inspired Thanksgiving menu features spice-rubbed turkey accompanied by green chorizo and squash blossom stuffing, mashed potatoes and green bean casserole. If this is your thing, you can wash it down with something from one of the best mescal and tequila menus in town, or one of the restaurant’s outstanding margaritas. Book at 954.414.8336 or elvezftlauderdale.com

Mai-Kai

The Mai-Kai offers their traditional mix of excellent food and, for those who want it, a Hawaiian floor show. In the restaurant there’s 3pm seating for the 5pm show and 6pm seating for the 8pm show. The Thanksgiving menu includes a starter of house salad, egg rolls or coconut lobster bisque; a main course of roasted turkey, ham or a combination with stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce and bread as well as a choice of two sides from mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and green beans. For dessert there’s vanilla or chocolate ice cream, mango sorbet or, for an additional $5, apple or pumpkin pie. Book at 954.563.3272 or maikai.com.

The Terrace Grill

The Terrace Grill, the restaurant at buzzy new hotel the Dalmar, is going traditional with a twist. The prix-fix three-course menu begins with the choice of a roasted butternut squash soup with toasted pumpkin seeds, spiced crème fraiche and sage oil, or a mixed green salad with pecan nuts, pears, blue cheese and pomegranate vinaigrette. For the main course, diners can enjoy a classic roast turkey served with mushroom, sage and onion stuffing, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy with options of mashed or sweet potatoes and green beans or roasted Brussels sprouts. End the meal on a sweet note with bourbon and cranberry compote. Guests can accompany the meal with featured special wines by the bottle, with the choice between Darioush Napa Valley Chardonnay ($58) or Antinori Chianti Clasico ($40). If you’d like to go on vacation in your own city, the menu is also available in-room. Reservations can be made through OpenTable or by phone: 954.945.9300.
