Before the Curtain

The theater season gets back into full swing this month, with great shows and concerts at the Broward Center, the Parker and the city’s many smaller theater and music venues. And nothing makes a night out at the theater better than some pre- and post-show food and refreshment.

1. The Venue: The Broward Center

Pre-Show: Marti’s New River Bistro
The Broward Center’s in-house restaurant is scheduled to reopen this month. It’s got great views overlooking the river, and a three-course prix fixe dinner menu that will get you to the show on time.

Post-Show: Himmarshee
The world’s your oyster for post-show drinks in Himmarshee. For the finer things, you can never go wrong checking out the amazing whiskey menu at Stache. Or if you make your evening a bit less fancy, check out the $3 PBR menu at the Poorhouse. (Note: it has one item on it.)

2. The Venue: The Parker

Pre-Show: Heritage
The pizzas are amazing, but if you’re looking for something a little lighter before a show, this is the sort of place that puts together a salad that makes you reconsider what you previously knew about salad.

Post-Show: Roxanne’s Liquor Bar & Kitchen
Across Federal from the Parker, Roxanne’s has one of the best cocktail menus in town.

3. The Venue: Culture Room

Pre-Show: Angelo Elia the Bakery Bar
It’s only open until 7pm, but you’ve got a show to see anyway. This outpost of the Angelo Elia empire will give you a delicious, light sandwich and a pleasant drink before you head around the corner to the Culture Room.

Post-Show: Kelly Brothers Irish Pub
It’s as straightforward as it gets in this longtime neighborhood favorite. Good drinks, good company and a great post-concert vibe.
