Poking Fun

Poke Lolo, 922 N Flagler Dr., 954.870.7904, poke-lolo.business.site
Suddenly, traditional Hawaiian poke is everywhere. The latest Fort Lauderdale entrant is Poke Lolo, which features signature poke bowls, create-your-own bowls and even poke in a waffle. Located in the MASS District, the restaurant is the perfect stop for lunch or an early dinner. Signature items include Passakos (white rice, tuna, red onion, cucumber, bean sprouts, seaweed salad, sriracha peas, jalapeno and mango wasabi sauce) and a tofu bowl.

Top of the World

Empanada Top, 813 E Las Olas Blvd., 954.533.9178, empanadatoplasolas.net
Empanada Top specializes in Argentinian-style empanadas and serves wines and beers perfect to wash down the Latin delicacy. Their menu includes unique empanadas such as Hawaiian (ham, mozzarella cheese and pineapple), corn and pumpkin (corn, pumpkin, onion, red bell pepper, mozzarella cheese and seasoning) and guava and cheese.

27 Club

27 Bar & Lounge, 835 NE 3rd Ave., 954.257.0026, twentysevenbar.com
If you’re familiar with the infamous “27 club” group, you’ll appreciate the concept behind 27 Bar and Lounge. As the name suggests, the group consists of well-known artists or actors who passed away at the age of 27. They include Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Amy Winehouse. The bar pays homage to these artists by displaying various art pieces, playing their music from time to time and naming drinks after some of their songs. In addition, the bar features live bands every weekend and an outdoor patio with games.
