Sit Still Kids Salon is on a mission to make haircuts fun for kids. Whether your youngster is a first-timer or has had a bad experience in hair salons or barbershops, this place aims to ensure children have a pleasant time and develop a healthy relationship with getting a haircut.
When kids are at ease, so are their parents, says Lizzie Peress, owner of the Fort Lauderdale location: “Our soothing and welcoming environment immediately calms most children. We take our time with each haircut and make sure that the parents or caregivers are happy.”
The motivation to bring Sit Still Kids Salon to Fort Lauderdale came from Peress and her husband’s own experience. “[We] have three young kids, and we struggled to find a place to get their hair cut in downtown Fort Lauderdale, often traveling at least 30 minutes to the closest kids salon,” says Peress. “I stumbled upon Sit Still Kids Salon and when I entered their Scottsdale, Arizona location, I knew it was magic and perfect to bring to our city.”
What makes this salon different? The process begins with an initial parental consultation about the child, their hairstyle and lifestyle. “We also ask questions to determine what would make your child most comfortable during their experience,” Peress says.
Then the fun begins. “We invite kids to play with the toys in our lobby or color at our coloring table. We have specialized car chairs for younger children and cool barber chairs for older kids,” she says. “All of our hair-care products are safe and free from harsh chemicals and sulfates. We have toys and iPads to keep your kiddo distracted and happy, too!”
The salon even went the extra mile to train its stylists to accommodate children with special or sensory needs. At the end of each child’s appointment, they can choose a hairstyle, glitter or temporary color spray of the family’s choosing. Sit Still Kids Salon also considers parents’ needs by providing them with convenient options. “We offer blowouts and styles for parents if they are interested in maximizing their time,” Peress notes. While waiting for their kids, parents can also enjoy a beverage and free Wi-Fi.
In addition to kids’ and adult hair services, the salon offers sparkle strands, manicures, glitter tattoos, birthday parties, braids, color extensions, curls and vivid color.
“Time after time, children enter our salon and go through the haircut experience without shedding a single tear and leave with a smile,” Peress says. “It’s amazing to see the peace this brings families. We have also had children donate their hair to Wigs for Kids through our hair donation program. It’s always incredible to know you are making a difference in the life of a child with cancer.”
